If you signed in with Google, Apple or an email address

Send a deletion request from the email address your account uses, so it can be matched to your account without asking you for anything else.

You do not have to give a reason. You will get a confirmation once it is done, and you can change your mind up until that point.

If you are still using a guest account

Sayobo creates an anonymous account for you the first time you open the app, and it stays anonymous until you choose to add an email address. A guest account holds no personal data at all — just a random identifier and your lesson progress — and there is no email address attached, which means a request by mail cannot be matched to it.

You have two options:

1. Remove the app. Uninstalling deletes every copy on your device: the downloaded audio, your progress and your course list. What remains on the server is a random identifier with no name, no address and nothing that points back to you, and it is never used for anything.
2. Claim the account first, then delete it. Open Account in the app, save your progress with Google, Apple or an email address, and then send the request above from that address. This is the route to take if you want the server-side record gone as well.

What is deleted

Everything Sayobo holds that is attached to your account:

• your sign-in account, including your email address and the link to Google or Apple if you used one;
• every lesson’s completion state and playback position;
• the review schedule for every word and phrase you have practised;
• any custom courses you created, and their generated audio;
• your conversations with the lesson tutor;
• which language pair and course version you were on.

Deletion is permanent. There is no restore, and starting again later means starting from lesson one.

What is not deleted

• The courses themselves. Lesson audio and transcripts are shared content, not your data — other learners are using the same files.
• Ordinary server logs, which contain IP addresses and are discarded automatically after a short retention period, typically 30 days.
• Anything the law requires to be kept. In practice, for a free app with no payments, there is nothing in this category.
• Your waitlist address, if you signed up on this website, is a separate list. Ask in the same message and it will go too.

How long it takes

Deletion is carried out within 30 days of the request, and usually within a few days. Backups roll off on their own schedule and are fully cleared within 90 days.
